Lock Top Damper

Description

The Lock Top Damper effectively seals in “paid” energy dollars. It mounts to the chimney top and seals with a flat rubber gasket when closed. The Top Damper is constructed of premium stainless steel and cast-aluminum and won’t rust like conventional cast-iron dampers. The control mounts in the firebox for quick and easy access and defaults to the open position.
Heat loss up the fireplace chimney accounts for an average 8% of your home heating costs! The Top Damper helps prevent this heat loss. Stay warmer and save money!

The Lock Top Damper is made for use only with open woodburning masonry fireplace chimneys and are NOT suitable for use in these installations:

• Don’t use on chimneys serving vented gas logs. Vented gas logs require the fireplace damper to be removed completely or fixed to a permanently open position; this is to assure that soot, fumes and carbon monoxide do not enter your home.
• Use only on vent-free gas logs if approved by the appliance manufacturer and the local authority having jurisdiction. However, we don’t recommend it because the moisture generated from the gas logs could damage the chimney structure.
• Not to be used on chimneys serving other fuels, wood stoves or other appliances such as inserts, furnaces, etc.

INSTALLATION

The Top Damper can be installed by homeowners who feel comfortable working on a roof, but U.S. Fireplace Products, Inc. strongly recommends you use the services of a qualified chimney sweep who can also inspect your chimney and provide other valuable home safety services.

The Top Damper may be used on round factory-built chimneys venting a fireplace. An RS Adapter for solid-pack chimney or a RS Adapter for air-cooled chimney is available to make this transition. Note: This may affect the fireplace listing. Check with the fireplace manufacturer before installing the adapter and damper.

The Lock Top Damper attaches to the top of the flue tile on fireplace chimneys. Our models are sized by common flue tiles and available in 6 Sizes:

8″ X 8″ Fits inside flue from 6″ X 6″ up to 9″ X 9″
9″ X 13″ Fits inside flue from 6″ X 9″ up to 9 1/2″ X 12 1/2″
8″ X 17″ Fits inside flue from 6″ X 14″ up to 9″ X 17 1/2″
13″ X 13″ Fits inside flue from 9″ X 9″ up to 12 1/2″ X 12 1/2″
13″ X 18″ Fits inside flue from 9″ X 14″ up to 12 1/2″ X 17 1/2″
18″ X 18″ Fits inside flue from 14″ X 14″ up to 17 1/2″ X 17 1/2″

Each damper kit includes:

30′ cable which can be cut to adjust for a perfect fit
Fireplace bracket and cool-touch spring handle
Mounting adhesive and hardware
